here is my artistic portfolio // 2018-2019
My name is Justyna Kalbarczyk, I was born in Wroclaw, Poland. Since 2013 I am a Berlin-based professional dancer, choreographer, and movement educator. I started to dance at the age of 3 in a local disco dance group, dressed in glitter and sequins. I received my dance degree from National Ballet School in Poznan 2009 and Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds 2012, where I was honored a First Class Degree in Performing Arts. In 2013 I received First Award and Audience Award at “Das Beste Deutsche Tanz Solo” in Leipzig for a performance of a solo BIM BAM BUM choreographed by Bridie Gane.

As a freelance dancer I participate in European projects initiated by other artists: Thomas Steyaert “Score #44- Methods of Excavation”, Claire Croizé & Etienne Guilloteau “Pole Reports from Space”, Chris Jäger "Sex mit Madonna", and PLAN MEE “Das Erbe- Politics on the ground” “Eat the floor- A contemporary Ceremony”, “Spring Revival”. In the past, I also worked with Habemus Corpus Dance Company “Aire”, Blenard Azizaj ”Fleeting Feathers”, Mikolaj Mikolajczyk “Fire Bird”, “Bolero”, “Lomatko”, and I was part of Think Big Residency at Staatsoper Hannover 2014.

In 2019 I co-founded CompanyHAA a Berlin-based collaborative platform for dance, performance, and art-related activities. It is run, in its core, by four artists: Edith Buttigsrud Pedersen, Annukka Hirvonen, Roberta Ricci, and Justyna Kalbarczyk; and associates artists from diverse art sectors like film, music, light, costume design, etc.

My portfolio includes productions of “RHIZOME” 2019; “smell.me.ordinary piece” 2019 (co-choreographed with Edith Buttingsrud Pedersen), “encouraged reality” 2019 (with Tobias König); “On the art of murmuration”2018; “Last Minute Panic” 2016, “Ventures” (by CompanyHAA) 2018, “How similar I am to your grandma” 2015, “Fate of the Galaxies” 2014 (by Collective One: Third/ Winner of 100 Berlin jury price 2015).
Moreover, I have been granted residency programs at Tanzzentrale Nürnberg, Rozbark Dance and Movement Theater in Bytom, and Cracow Choreographic Center.

I have performed at various festivals: 100 grad Festival Sophiensaele in Berlin, El Grecc Festival in Barcelona, Malta Festival in Poznan ,TanzTage Görlitz, Solo Duo Festival in Budapest, Light Night Festival in Leeds Bish Bash Bosh, Raw&Polish Tanzzentrale Nurnberg, Unfinished Fridays Lake Studios, Ada Studio, Soun d ance Festival in Berlin, Ballet OFF DAnce FEstival in Cracow Kontestacje in Lublin.
My artistic approach is rooted in score-based choreography and improvisation, favoring an ongoing-research and re-evaluation of current processes. I am intrigued by the human body. Its physical and cognitive skills, its multitude of possibilities for expression and capacity for countless transformations. In my dance, I search for strong physicality and expression of the body, as well as the creation of dramatic, often grotesque characters.

As of September 2020 I am a physiotherapist in training at Fontys University of Applied Sciences.
